While Assateague is known for the wild horses that live there, there is much more to the island. There are a few walking trails, including my favorite, the Life of the Marsh Trail.

Stepping onto the trail is like stepping into a different world! It’s very different from the beach landscape of the surrounding areas. A boardwalk path leads you through the marsh to a vantage point for a rare look at wildlife you might not see anywhere else, if you’re lucky!

Even if you don’t get that lucky glimpse (I didn’t on my last trip), you’ll still have a wonderful walk through a wonderfully preserved habitat!
